“Art derives from a person’s desire to communicate with another.” - Edvard Munch
Munch manages to convey silence in this painting, an intense sense of love and despair, through his expressive brushwork and choice of colors. The composition of the work, with the bodies intertwined and their faces almost fused, reflects the deep connection between the lovers.
The beautiful blue tones, along with the warm yellow hues of the city lights at dusk, give this painting a special symbolism. The overall composition, in my opinion, is excellent, a masterpiece of Expressionism.
